ECU Connecting With Fans In A Whole New Way

In the new era of connectivity via PC's, Cell Phones, PDA's, and anything else with an internet connection, the ECU Pirates are keeping us all well informed. Through sites such as Facebook, Myspace and Twitter we have been able to find out news about Pirate baseball, basketball, football and the ECU Pirate Club before it ever makes it up on their official ECU site.

Nick Schnabel to Replace Jarrett on ECU Baseball Staff

According to Pirate Radio 1250 via Twitter, Nick Schnabel has been added as the newest member of the ECU Baseball coaching staff. He will take the place of Link Jarrett who left ECU to take a position at Auburn. Over the past 2 years Schnabel has served as the Assistant Coach at Liberty.

Over the weekend I received an email from a friend who is sharing the story of two ECU alumni who crossed paths on the battlefield in Iraq in a most unusual manner. When out on their mission, the two soldiers chanted what most would hear on a game day at Dowdy Ficklen, not on the battlefield in Iraq.

Desi Brown verbally commits to ECU

According to Scout.com, Desi Brown is the newest East Carolina football recruit to verbally commit to our program. He was recruited by the quarterback coach Phil Petty and verbally committed this morning. Brown's former high school coach, Luke Little, at South Stanly High School in Norwood, NC confirmed the commitment. Brown chose East Carolina over Arkansas and Louisville.

Pirate Club and Student Pirate Club numbers looking good in ’09.

Looks as though the ECU Pirate Club numbers are up as compared to last year. According to my recent memory, these numbers are around $400,000 greater than last year at this time. Coupled with the recent Student Pirate Club numbers of 4,500 members thus far, I believe we may get the green light for the Dowdy Ficklen stadium end zone expansion.

ECU players and commits picked up in MLB draft.

It didn't take long for a player with ECU ties to get scooped up in the MLB draft on Tuesday, June 9. With the 25th pick, the Anaheim Angels drafted ECU commit, Mike Trout. ECU had high hopes for the outfielder from Millville Senior High School in New Jersey but we will be able to follow him and other ECU related ballplayers in minor and major league ball parks throughout the country.

As I stood at my tailgate spot enjoying what might be the best Corona I've ever had, I felt a tug on my sleeve. Standing below me was my little brother and I began grinning ear-to-ear. Jacob was holding his white gem in his hand and he asked, "You think I could get Kyle Roller to sign this?" After my last big pull from the now empty bottle of Corona, I said "Ain't no question."
