ECU Homecoming: 100 Years of Treasured Traditions

There really is no better time to head to Greenville for a football game than Homecoming (unless we land home field for the Conference USA championship). I can't wait. I have spoken to a lot of my friends that are setting up big plans for the game. We are all getting prepared to stir-fry Rice.

Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium expansion to begin in December 2009

ECU has given the go ahead for a 7,000 east endzone expansion beginning this upcoming December. The Dowdy-Ficklen stadium expansion has been much talked about and much anticipated over the past year. Student Pirate Club members and the ECU Marching Pirates would be moved from their current location to the 7,000 seat expansion. This would open up 3,500-4,000 seats between the 35 yard lines for Pirate Club members.

That “Ray of Sunshine” Moment

Unbelievably, one other thing I learned from Coach Emory was how to let myself be loved. . I have to admit, I loved this man. He would often say, “Ahhh, if I can’t put my hands on ya, I can’t coach ya. I’m jus’ showing ya I love ya.” Knowing that he was showing me “love” helped ease the pain I experienced each time he jerked my by the face mask when I missed a block in practice. It felt good to be loved. Tough-loved. -A story from former East Carolina football player Bob Alexander

Expect some changes in Football parking this year…

As the season draws nearer, everyone is anticipating the arrival of their season tickets and parking passes. Many of you may have received your tickets already and beginning on Friday many will begin to see their parking passes arrive in the mail as well. With the growth of the ECU facilities come many consequences. Some see them as good, others see them as bad (I guess that all depends on whether you parked in the softball field lot last year).

Armanti Edwards’ Lawn Service

I know that the news is a little old now. If, for some reason, you haven't heard that Armanti Edwards ran over his own foot with a lawnmower, he did. He is expected to be back to play against the Pirates but will probably miss almost every practice leading up to it. The whole situation sounds a little sneaky because of the lack of details. Let us know what you think.

Ol’ “Skip to my Lou” may have found another career.

Lou Holtz , the father of our beloved ECU football coach, has met with top Republicans in Washington DC and is supposedly considering a run for Congress in Central Florida. The 72 year old Hall of Fame coach and current ESPN analyst is interested in challenging first-term U.S. Rep. Suzanne Kosmas, D-New Smyrna Beach.

Hey Ladies – The Fifth Annual Ladies Football Clinic is on August 1st

It's that time of the year again. On August 1 over 150 ladies will come streaming out of the pirate ship onto Bagwell Field at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium. They will all be following Skip Holtz and the rest of the coaching staff as they spend the day learning the ins and outs of college football.

UNC Basketball Jumps the Shark…

Apparently, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's basketball program is starting early after initiating its new fetal recruitment policy which will begin trying to get commitments from the fetuses during the second trimester. This is taking college recruitment to a whole new level and collegiate fans can watch their players grow from a baby to a bigger baby when they begin playing at UNC.

This is what 4.2 looks like

You MUST watch this video. It is an excellent grassroots tribute to Chris Johnson's days at ECU. The Titans are lucky to have this ECU running back who holds the record for the fastest electronic time ever at the NFL combine, 4.24 seconds. He is a beast. Thanks to Andy Hutchins from The Arena Blog for pointing it out to me. The video pays a fine tribute to the time that CJ spent playing for the Pirates.
