ECU has given the go ahead for a 7,000 east endzone expansion beginning this upcoming December. The Dowdy-Ficklen stadium expansion has been much talked about and much anticipated over the past year. Student Pirate Club members and the ECU Marching Pirates would be moved from their current location to the 7,000 seat expansion. This would open up 3,500-4,000 seats between the 35 yard lines for Pirate Club members.

Unbelievably, one other thing I learned from Coach Emory was how to let myself be loved. . I have to admit, I loved this man. He would often say, “Ahhh, if I can’t put my hands on ya, I can’t coach ya. Looks as though the ECU Pirate Club numbers are up as compared to last year. According to my recent memory, these numbers are around $400,000 greater than last year at this time. Coupled with the recent Student Pirate Club numbers of 4,500 members thus far, I believe we may get the green light for the Dowdy Ficklen stadium end zone expansion.

It didn't take long for a player with ECU ties to get scooped up in the MLB draft on Tuesday, June 9. With the 25th pick, the Anaheim Angels drafted ECU commit, Mike Trout. ECU had high hopes for the outfielder from Millville Senior High School in New Jersey but we will be able to follow him and other ECU related ballplayers in minor and major league ball parks throughout the country.
