200 Years Too Late

Pirate Out and Black Out…two classic mistakes…

As many of you have heard, there has been much talk about a Pirate Out (everyone dress up like a pirate) and a Black Out (everyone wear black) for the Virginia Tech game on Nov. 5. I have many questions and concerns about this.

Four thousand, one hundred and seventeen?!?!?

I knew the stadium was empty last night while watching the game on ESPN2 HD from the comfort of my own living room but I just didn't realize how empty it was until Denny O'Brien (@TheDOB on Twitter) tweeted that they announced over the P.A. that 4,117 people were in attendance for the game. I thought I had read his update wrong or maybe he had accidentally left out a digit. Nope.

I am sure I don't stand alone when I say I am a little frustrated with the Pirates performance over the past six games. But as great leaders always do, Terry Holland has taken a stance and made it well known that Pirate Nation must stand together and remain confident and supportive of our team. Below is a message from him sent out today regarding Pirate expectations and maintaining unity and resolve.

ECU Homecoming: 100 Years of Treasured Traditions

There really is no better time to head to Greenville for a football game than Homecoming (unless we land home field for the Conference USA championship). I can't wait. I have spoken to a lot of my friends that are setting up big plans for the game. We are all getting prepared to stir-fry Rice.

MASN to Televise Exclusive ECU vs. Rice Game Live on October 17

Adding to an impressive slate of East Carolina programming this season, MASN will exclusively produce and televise ECU's Homecoming game against Rice on October 17th at 3:30 p.m. live from Greenville. This will increase to nine the number of Pirate football games being televised by MASN this year as part of the network's partnership with ECU.

Get your flu shot before heading to Chapel Hill

Bottles of Purell hand sanitizer have been flying of the shelves in Greenville leading up to this weekends ECU vs. UNC game in Chapel Hill this weekend. Some stores have even invested in purple masks to sell to Pirate fans who are making the trip UNC. The Tarheels lead the University School System in most confirmed cases of H1N1 flu virus, commonly known as Swine Flu.

Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium expansion to begin in December 2009

ECU has given the go ahead for a 7,000 east endzone expansion beginning this upcoming December. The Dowdy-Ficklen stadium expansion has been much talked about and much anticipated over the past year. Student Pirate Club members and the ECU Marching Pirates would be moved from their current location to the 7,000 seat expansion. This would open up 3,500-4,000 seats between the 35 yard lines for Pirate Club members.

Eight ECU football games on the slate with MASN

Earlier today, MASN announced a renewed partnership with the Pirates where they will be carrying eight games throughout the 2009 East Carolina football season. This is big news for the Pirates and its fans as we set sail into a new year filled with great opportunities to get into the national spotlight.
