For the first time since the 1998-99 season, the Lady Pirates basketball team is 4-0. With a 75-70 win over American, the Lady Pirates are taking steps in the right direction to compete with the best in Conference USA. For a second there, I was wondering if the Lady Pirates already had a basketball practice facility. If only the men’s team was playing as well.
While the women have gotten of to a great start, the men are falling short with a 2-4 record. There two wins coming against an NAIA team, UVA-Wise, and South Dakota State. Many of their loses were expected, including the Wake Forest and Tenneessee games. However, falling short against Campbell was not. The Pirates upcoming opponents include UNC Greensboro, Charlotte and Coker. Hopefully they will get back on track in time to face a nationally ranked Clemson team on December 16 inside Williams Arena at Minges Colesium.
As football season is slowly winding down, I know many of you fair weathered ECU fans are probably excited about UNC basketball. But please do me a favor, if you are an ECU alumni and you religiously watch UNC basketaball, let us know and we will be happy to send you a Wal-Mart gift card so you can shop for the latest UNC gear.

As for all those Pirates out there who support ECU through all the athletic seasons, THANK YOU!! It is because of you that I say, “Damn, I am proud to be a Pirate.”
