ECU - Old Dominion Equipment Truck 3

The East Carolina University Football Program will be debuting its new equipment truck today at the 15th Annual Meet The Pirates event at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. tonight. Stop by for your chance to check out one of the newest additions to the Pirate football program.

Thanks to ecukid79 over at Boneyard Banter, we were able to acquire some pictures to give you a glimpse of the new Pirate 18-wheeler that will be carting around our team’s gear during away games. I am extremely excited about this and hope that I can follow it down 264 on the way to a game. Skip is pretty excited, too:

I also need to thank ISP Sports and the Old Dominion Trucking Company for providing our wonderful new equipment truck. Our equipment will now move in a first-class manner and compare to some of the elite programs across the country.

If you aren’t familiar with Old Dominion Freight Lines (ODFL), you might be thinking that they are associated with Old Dominion University. Not so fast, my friend. ODFL is a proud sponsor of the ECU Football program. They have a prime ad spot on the scoreboard at Dowdy-Ficklen and I am glad to have one of the Southeast’s greatest freight line companies as our sponsor.

ISP Sports (out of Winston-Salem, NC) is the other sponsor responsible for helping the Pirates with the new gear truck. They have been a proud sponsor of East Carolina athletics over the past few years and are quickly turning themselves into one of the premier college sports networks in the nation.

When I first saw the pictures of the new ECU equipment truck, my mind went directly to Jerry Reed’s ‘East Bound & Down’ from Smokey & The Bandit. I thought I would give a try at altering the lyrics to make them a little more Pirate friendly:

_

East Carolina Football, loaded up and truckin’,
we’re gonna do what they say can’t be done.
We’ve got a long way to go and a short time to get there.
I’m ready to watch the Pirates play.
_
Keep your foot hard on the pedal. Son, never mind them brakes.
Let it all hang out ’cause we got a game to make.
The boys are playing past Atlanta and there’s another near Texarcana
And we’ll bring home a “W” no matter what it takes.
_
East Carolina Football, loaded up and truckin’,
we’re gonna do what they say can’t be done.
We’ve got a long way to go and a short time to get there.
I’m ready to watch the Pirates play.
_
Ol’ Skip’s got his game on and he’s hot on the trail.
He aint gonna rest ’til were number one.
So we got the Tar-holes and we got Tulsa, we gotta keep that diesel truckin’.
Just put that hammer down and give ‘em hell.
_
East Carolina Football, loaded up and truckin’,
we’re gonna do what they say can’t be done.
We’ve got a long way to go and a short time to get there.
I’m ready to watch the Pirates play.

_

I welcome any additions or changes to the lyrics so please toss out your ideas in the comment section below. I hope that a lot of Boneyarders will jump on and share their ideas!

Someone that hasn’t exercised for years ought not to rush in to running a long way a day or perhaps pounding the treadmill.
