If you are still rocking the boring state issued license plate on your car, it is time to grow up…unless you live outside of North Carolina, Virginia or Maryland. We just found out that the Maryland East Carolina alumni plates arrived in the mail thanks to @jondeutsch on Twitter. He posted a TwitPic of his new Virginia ECU alumni plate just a little bit ago. Check it out:
I have been sporting my North Carolina ECU alumni plate for a few months now and love it. It was well worth the extra $25 that I spent after waiting in line at the DMV for what felt like forever. I am not sure if Maryland or Virginia give money back to ECU (I don’t think they do) but I know that if you purchase the North Carolina ECU alumni plate, $15 of the $25 additional fee goes back to the Board of Governors of The University of North Carolina for in-state public colleges and universities and to the respective board of trustees for in-state private colleges and universities. Yeah…that is according (and copy & pasted from) the North Carolina General Statute 20-79.
I am guessing that means that out-of-state collegiate plates don’t feed money back into the University of North Carolina school system but it is still awesome that we can show our pride even if we don’t live in the same state. Check out the pride that Pirate fans are showing across the country at ECUplates.com and submit your own when you get it even if it isn’t an official one.
I think I still like the North Carolina one much more because of the incorporation of the Wright Brothers’ plane and that fact that we can still laugh at the state of Ohio who was trying to steal the “First in Flight” from us with their sneaky “Birthplace of Aviation”…not happening, Ohio. Maybe next time, guys. Find out how to get the official plate in North Carolina and Maryland from PirateAlumni.com and show some support for old E.C. on the back (and/or front of your car).

I’ll be honest: I miss the Cupola that used to be up there. That thing was keepin’ it classy!

The Cupola is a classic and it sucks that I never had one. It is a little classier than PeeDee.

No offense to PeeDee though. However, I do feel a little bit better knowing that the UNC crowd don’t have the option of their beloved Old Well either.
