ECU Baseball Team celebrates with the die hard fans in the Jungle.

With a win over the South Carolina Gamecocks, the East Carolina Pirate Baseball team won the Greenville, NC Regional Championship.  In front of a crowd of 5,047 at Clark-LeClair Stadium (ECU’s fourth largest attendance in baseball history) they overcame an early 6-0 deficit to win the game on a Devin Harris single in the bottom of the 10th.

Before Harris singled home Kyle Roller in the bottom of the 10th, he helped tie the game in the bottom of the 9th when he hit a towering three run blast over the jungle in left field.   With the win over the Gamecocks, the Pirates head to the Super Regional for the first time since 2004 in Chapel Hill.  They will face the UNC Tar Heels in a best of three series beginning on Friday at 12:00 PM on ESPN U.  You can view the Super Regional Brackets here.

The Pirates three game winning streak and Regional Championship over the past weekend have put the team within the top 15 in three national polls.  The Pirates, who are 46-18, are ranked 14th in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and Collegiate Baseball, and 15th by Baseball America.
