The ECU Pirate Club is closing in on its 2009 projections with a recent pledged amount of around $5 million. According to the Pirate Club Facebook page:

Thanks Pirate Nation!! Over 5M pledged in 2009. On our way to our goal of 5.2M. If you have not renewed, please do so. See link below to sign up online. Thanks for you support. Go Pirates!!

According to my recent memory, these numbers are around $400,000 greater than last year at this time.  Coupled with the recent Student Pirate Club numbers of 4,500 members thus far, I believe we may get the green light for the Dowdy Ficklen stadium end zone expansion.

It is great to see continued giving on behalf of Pirate Nation. However, one thing I am concerned about is the lack of members in the Young Graduate Pirate Club (YG). It seems that as members of the Student Pirate Club (SPC) are graduating, they are not continuing to give as YG members.  Last year, ECU had over 5,100 SPC members and only had around 950 YG members.  I think there needs to be more focus on recruiting and retaining these YG members so that they will join the YG program when they graduate and continue to give years after they are finished with school. The SPC, YG and Pirate Club are the backbone of our fundraising efforts and if we want to be considered as national football contenders then it is imperative we raise the necessary money to compete with the major BCS schools.

Go Pirates!

Maybe some spc members are skiping the ygprogram and diving right into the pirate club for better seating at football games. If you want it bad enough, you’ll find the cash.

ERV – I would echo that point, especially when people graduate a year ahead of their buddies, the younger ones will make the jump after 2 years in the YG program. I know a couple people who did it without batting an eye because of their friends moving up to PC (not to mention the priority points).
