At the beginning of this week, the East Carolina University athletic department released the times for all of the home games for the 2009 ECU football schedule. It was a little surprising to see this many games start so early in the day but, thanks to Terry Holland and many of the others behind the schedule, we have an outstanding number of televised games this year.
2009 EAST CAROLINA HOME FOOTBALL SCHEDULE
09/05 Appalachian State (MASN/WITN-TV), 12 noon
09/26 UCF (WITN-TV), 3:30 p.m.
10/17 Rice (MASN), 3:30 p.m.
11/05 Virginia Tech (ESPN), 7:30 p.m.
11/21 UAB (MASN/WITN-TV), 3:30 p.m.
11/28 Southern Miss, 1:00 p.m.
all times in EST; times still subject to change
This year’s football schedule isn’t the tailgating Pirate’s dream schedule because of the combination of the early morning drive for fans not staying overnight, the heat that will be pouring out of the eastern North Carolina sun and the early “tee times” for those kids that went out on Friday night. Sure, those things sound brutal but every single one of you knows that we will make the necessary sacrifices to be out there supporting our boys in purple and gold.
I can’t remember the last time that we have had so many games that kick-off this early but, then again, I can’t remember seeing this many games televised in quite sometime. I know a lot of Pirate fans outside of eastern North Carolina are a little skeptical about calling them “televised games” when the effin’ cable companies won’t carry MASN and are making us switch to DirecTV to view the Pirates on television but I will save that rant for a different post at a different time. I am just excited about the amount of national exposure that we will get.
We have less than three months until the first game of the season and I couldn’t be more excited right now. I know its early but I am ready for all of the Appalachian State fans to arrive into Greenville on Friday night and Saturday morning. I am ready for them to see why everyone calls Greenville a football town. I am ready for them to experience the good nature of the ECU fan base and realize what a mistake they made by not attending our beautiful university. It is going to be one hell of a weekend down there and I look forward to seeing each and every one of you wearing your purple and gold.
