Last night, the NCAA announced the 16 regional hosts for the 2009 NCAA baseball tournament. The East Carolina Pirates were one of the 16 teams announced to host during last night’s selection process. The Pirates were one of two North Carolina teams and one of two C-USA teams to host a regional this year. Here are the 16 hosting sites for the 2009 NCAA Baseball tournament:

• Atlanta/Georgia Tech
• Austin, Texas/Texas
• Baton Rouge, La./LSU
• Chapel Hill, N.C./UNC
• Clemson, S.C./Clemson
• Fort Worth, Texas/TCU
• Fullerton, Calif./Cal State Fullerton
• Gainesville, Fla./Florida
• Greenville, N.C./East Carolina
• Houston/Rice
• Irvine, Calif./UC Irvine
• Louisville, Ky./Louisville
• Norman, Okla./Oklahoma
• Oxford, Miss./Mississippi
• Tallahassee, Fla./Florida State
• Tempe, Ariz./Arizona State

Each regional features four teams in a double-elimination format. In Greenville, NC the Pirates will host the University of South Carolina, George Mason University and Binghamton University at Clark-LeClair Stadium. This marks the 24th time that the Pirates have appeared in post-season play with ten of those appearances in the last 11 years.

Even though this is the third time that the Pirates will host the opening round of the NCAA baseball tournament, this will be the first time that it will be hosted at Clark-LeClair Stadium. The first hosting location was in 2001 at Fleming Stadium in Wilson, NC and the second hosting location was in 2004 at Grainger Stadium in Kinston, NC.

The Greenville Regional will begin with George Mason taking on South Carolina and the Pirates taking on Binghamton on May 29th (Friday). I need to apologize for the Busch League screenshot that I have below. I pulled it  from the NCAA Baseball Web site and their site isn’t the prettiest thing ever. The rest of the regional will be as follows or you can check out D1Baseball.com’s complete regional brackets:
